Brian Hermanson has been practicing law in Ponca City, OK for 31 years, concentrating on Criminal Law, Trial Practice, Evidence, Criminal Procedure, Family Law, Personal Injury, Probate, and Civil Rights Litigation. Raised in Wisconsin, he completed his undergraduate degree at Carroll College before attending law school at the University of Oklahoma, earning his J.D. He has received notoriety by being appointed by the State of Oklahoma to represent defendants in highly publicized cases including State v. Terry Lynn Nichols(The Oklahoma City Bombing Case) and State v. McBrain.

He has authored many articles for various publications including the ABA GP/Solo Law Trends & News(07-09), OBA Criminal Law Section Quarterly Newsletter(05-present), and The Gauntlet(1991).

He’s received a multitude of honors and awards for his work, including the Clarence Darrow Award as the Outstanding Criminal Defense Lawyer in Oklahoma from the Oklahoma Criminal Defense Lawyers Association(1986), President’s Special Recognition Award, also from the Oklahoma Criminal Defense Lawyers Association(2001), The Sole Practitioner of the Year Award by the American Bar Association(2005) and has consecutively won the Star of the Quarter from the General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Division of the American Bar Association from 2006-2009. He has been one of only two attorneys in Ponca City recognized as a Super Lawyer.

As a speaker, Brian Hermanson has given over 50 continuing legal education lectures in his career for organizations including the Mayes County Bar Association, Oklahoma Paralegal Association, Oklahoma Bar Association, Oklahoma Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, Garfield County Bar Association, Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and the American Bar Association.

Besides being active in organizations at the state and national level, Brian has been committed to his community and local groups. He has served as President of Ponca City Rotary Club, Ponca City YMCA, American Cancer Society—Kay County Chapter, Arts Adventure, Instrumental Music Parent’s Association, Ponca Playhouse, and of the Gifted and Talented Parent Advisory Board. Just stepping down January 19th, he was the chair of the Kay County Republican Party. He is also an active member of Community Christian Church, serving as elder, trustee, and is currently serving as the Chair of the Board of Directors.

Brian has been happily married to Ruslyn Evans Hermanson, a Red Rock native, for 29 years. They have two daughters: Brianna, 28, and Charlcy, 23. Their other family members include a dog, cat, two barn cats, and 34 quarter horses.
